The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, is confident of retaining her seat in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries slated for January 27, 2024.
Osei-Asare, who is also a Deputy Finance Minister in the Akufo-Addo government, emerged as the number 1 candidate on the ballot after going through a rigorous vetting process on Thursday, January 4.
She expressed her optimism on Facebook, saying, “It was a day filled with hope and determination. I am happy to announce that following a thorough vetting process and subsequent balloting, I have secured the top spot.”
She added, “No 1 on the ballot! This represents a testament to our collective aspiration for growth and prosperity in Atiwa East…I look forward to your massive support on the 27th of January 2024.”
Her victory assurance is backed by a member of her campaign team who said, “I can confirm she has been vetted. And indeed, the battle lines have been drawn. We will embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults, and I know the delegates will speak, and this time we will record a flawless victory.”
Osei-Asare has also received strong endorsements from various stakeholders in the constituency, including Fati Vondolie, former Eastern Regional Women Organizer of the NPP.
Vondolie, who spoke during an end-of-year meeting on December 23, praised Osei-Asare’s impressive track record in the constituency.
She said, “This is an MP who has resourced the majority of constituents and I can attest to that. The massive infrastructure she has initiated is firming up with some completed, and these projects and initiatives are there for people to see.”
Vondolie, who is also the Eastern Regional Coordinator at the Ghana School Feeding Programme, stressed that Osei-Asare’s re-election would boost Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s votes in the constituency during the general elections in December 2024.
Another endorsement came from Osabarima Kwame Okoh, the chief of Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District, who lauded Osei-Asare’s unparalleled record and investments in the area.
During her routine visit to the community, Osabarima said, “I am extremely happy and humbled, and her achievement is evident for people to see. Many MPs have come and gone, but we haven’t witnessed your type since the inception of democracy in the last three decades.”
