SSNISamuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, will lead a protest against the sale of a 60 per cent stake in four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The sale is to Rock City Hotel owned by Food and Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong.
Ablakwa, Organised Labour, and other stakeholders have raised questions about the process that selected Rock City as the buyer for the hotels.
The protest aims to compel the government to halt the process.
“We want the government to terminate the process because if Honourable Bryan Acheampong truly has the expertise and capacity to turn around these SSNIT hotels, given that he is in the cabinet, why doesn’t he apply that expertise now to benefit everyone, instead of waiting until he has a controlling stake of 60 per cent in Rock City? How do we justify this? What is his role in the cabinet? Why are we paying him,” quizzed.
He further criticized the transaction as a clear instance of state capture by government appointees.
He added, “It’s evident that this is a case of state capture, and that’s why we all need to stand up.
“With the expected large turnout, we will send a strong message to the president that enough is enough regarding state capture.”
