A six-member delegation from Star-Ghana Foundation has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to congratulate him on his re-election as Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.
Led by Chairperson Hamdiya Ismaila, the delegation also discussed potential areas of collaboration and praised Speaker Bagbin’s leadership, describing his re-election as a testament to his exemplary qualities.
Hamdiya Ismaila reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to supporting civil society in promoting accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment programs that benefit citizens.
Speaker Bagbin expressed gratitude for the Star-Ghana Foundation’s unwavering support over the years.
He acknowledged their significant contributions to Parliament, particularly in providing resources and technical expertise that have enhanced the institution’s global recognition.
Highlighting the Foundation’s role in drafting and implementing Parliament’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, the Speaker revealed that preparations for the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan are underway.
“We want to draw on your immense experience and expertise in this regard,” he stated.
Speaker Bagbin also mentioned the creation of new committees under the recently revised Standing Orders. These include Economy and Development, Ethics and Standards, Human Rights, Budget, Security and Intelligence, Youth, Disability and Gender, and Backbenchers Committees, all aimed at improving Parliament’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Acting Clerk to Parliament, commended the Star-Ghana Foundation for its sustained support.
He noted that initiatives such as the Speaker’s Breakfast Forum, seminars, and other programs have strengthened the bond between Parliament and the Foundation, enhancing the legislative body’s overall impact.
