Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has launched a scathing attack on the Clerk to the Appointments Committee, accusing her of blatant partisanship in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A visibly enraged Afenyo-Markin did not mince words, declaring that the Clerk has exposed her NDC bias and must either resign or be removed.
“That lady must either resign as a parliamentary staff or change her posture without delay,” he thundered.
The clerk
Addressing the media in Parliament last Friday following the previous day’s chaos at the vetting session, the Minority leader expressed outrage over what he described as the Clerk’s deliberate attempts to sideline the Minority.
He recounted past experiences where she allegedly ensured that the then-minority had their say before reports were signed and claimed she now operates in the shadows, keeping the present Minority in the dark.
“This same clerk today would advertise those who have been scheduled for vetting at midnight without notice to us as Minority. Reports get signed, and the first time the Minority will see the report will be on the floor,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He also fumed about an incident earlier in the day on Thursday, where the Majority was left waiting while the NDC caucus went ahead with voting without their knowledge.
He said, “This morning, after all her numerous sins, she committed another grave sin. We were in Parliament as early as 8 o’clock to have our caucus meeting. When we were done, the Majority Chief Whip reached out to our Chief Whip for a meeting, which we agreed to. The Majority Leader himself called me, saying he was on his way. But while we were waiting, we saw the NDC caucus commencing their vetting! And this same Clerk, without reaching out to us, administered the oath. What an irresponsible Clerk we have! What an unprofessional Clerk we have! What a partisan Clerk we have! She must be ashamed of herself and ashamed of her profession as a parliamentary service clerk!”
Vowing not to let the issue rest, Afenyo-Markin made it clear that the Minority would take decisive action.
“We will not spare her. We will go all out to deal with her per the law if she will not change!” he added.
The leader warned that the Minority will not be bullied, sending a strong warning to those who seek to undermine their role in Parliament.
“We are the mighty few. Mighty Minority. We will not surrender. We will not give up. And we know that God willing, fortune will smile at us come 2028!”
