Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, has unveiled a groundbreaking plan to implement the 24-hour economy policy within the Parliamentary Service to promote jobs and productivity.
This marks a major step toward enhancing national productivity and tackling unemployment.
The initiative comes in response to increasing workloads among parliamentary staff, following a recent change in the House’s sitting time from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Under the new policy, staff will begin work at 8:00 a.m. and may close as late as 10:00 or 11:00 p.m., particularly for those in critical divisions.

“This move will create more employment opportunities and significantly ease the pressure on existing staff. The workload here is unimaginable, and this policy is a timely intervention,” Bagbin stated on Thursday, June 26, during the official presentation of the final 24-hour economy policy document by representatives from the Office of the President.
The national rollout of the policy is scheduled for launch on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Presidential Advisor Goosie Tanoh described it as a transformative national strategy anchored on three pillars—transforming jobs and production, improving supply chains and markets, and enhancing human capital.
These are backed by sub-programmes such as Grow 24 (modern agriculture), Make 24 (industrial growth), Connect 24 (supply chain optimisation), and Aspire 24 (productivity mindset).
The initiative, a flagship campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will begin with Parliament and expand in phases to other sectors nationwide.
