More than 60 Members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have jointly declared their unwavering support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the Party’s next flagbearer.

The MPs described him as the embodiment of the NPP’s enduring vision and future hope, indicating that their decisions are based on conviction, performance, and loyalty — not sentiment.

“We declare our total and unwavering support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of our great Party. He represents the enduring spirit of the NPP,” the MPs said.

At a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, October 23, the MPs celebrated Dr. Bawumia’s transformation from a brilliant economist at the Bank of Ghana to a Vice President who has proven that leadership is not about words but work, not about entitlement but excellence and delivery.

“He has brought clarity to governance, inspired innovation, and built systems that work through Ghana’s digital transformation, financial inclusion, and modernization of public service delivery,” it read. Dr. Bawumia is a leader who respects our history yet reimagines our future,” they said.

The legislators described Dr. Bawumia as the candidate who could best unify the NPP and win the confidence of the Ghanaian people ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“We affirm that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not just the candidate who can unite our Party; he is the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond. He stands as the symbol of renewal, bridging generations, breaking barriers, and inspiring the belief that Ghana’s best days are yet to come,” they said

The MPs urged delegates to reward loyalty, humility, and hard work by entrusting the future of the party to Dr. Bawumia.

The signatories include senior NPP MPs such as Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (Ofoase-Ayirebi), Francis Asenso-Boakye (Bantama), Samuel Abu Jinapor (Damongo), Dominic Nitiwul (Bimbila), Prof. Kingsley Nyarko (Kwadaso), and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour (Assin South), among others.

Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the member for Mampong, who addressed the media surrounded by others, lauded Bawumia’s contributions to the party over the years, both in government and in opposition, saying he had remained faithful, disciplined, and pragmatic.

He disclosed that the actual number of Bawumia adherents was 65, but two members have opted to keep their identities out of the media space for now.

The support cuts across the Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Bono, Ahafo, Central, Western, Savanna, North East, and Greater Accra Regions, signaling strong parliamentary backing for the Vice President.
