The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Okaikwei Central Constituency, Harruna Rafik, has formally petitioned the Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee over what he describes as serious irregularities in the ongoing polling station reorganisation exercise in the constituency.

In a petition addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Executives, Mr. Rafik expressed deep concern over the manner in which the reorganisation exercise and the compilation of the prospective delegates’ album are being conducted.

According to him, after nominations were filed, the Constituency Secretary was given sole responsibility for entering data into the prospective delegates’ album, without the involvement of other constituency executives or Electoral Area Coordinators.

He argued that this approach undermines the transparency and inclusiveness required for such a critical reorganisation process.

Mr. Rafik noted that several stakeholders had raised concerns and called for broader participation, but these appeals were allegedly ignored.

The current arrangement, he said, contradicts directives issued by the party’s General Secretary, which clearly state that committees at the Electoral Area level are expected to undertake the exercise collectively and transparently.

“The guidelines do not grant exclusive authority to any single officer to supervise or carry out this sensitive exercise alone,” the petition stated.

The First Vice Chairman also raised concerns about the custody of all documents and materials related to the reorganisation exercise, which he said are being kept solely by the Constituency Secretary.

He warned that allowing one individual to have exclusive control over such important records compromises accountability and could erode confidence in the integrity of the process.

Mr. Rafik cautioned that the exclusion of key stakeholders, particularly Electoral Area Coordinators who are directly connected to the polling stations, creates suspicion and opens the door to possible manipulation.

According to him, if the matter is not addressed promptly, it could generate unnecessary tension and undermine unity within the constituency.

In his petition, the Okaikwei Central First Vice Chairman appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Executives to intervene immediately and ensure that the exercise is conducted strictly in accordance with the party’s established guidelines.

He called for all relevant stakeholders, including constituency executives and Electoral Area Coordinators, to be actively involved to guarantee credibility, fairness, and transparency.
