Joycelyn Savage, the longtime fiancée of disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly, is speaking out publicly to reject claims made by her family, insisting that she is neither a victim nor a sex slave.

In a video released Sunday evening, Savage took aim at her family’s recent remarks, including their refusal to support efforts for R. Kelly’s pardon. Her family had stated their opposition was rooted in Kelly’s failure to accept responsibility for his crimes, and their belief that Savage is still under his influence.

But Joycelyn firmly dismissed those concerns, stating: “I am not held against my will. I am not a sex slave. I am not brainwashed or any of those crazy lies that were told about me.” She revealed she and R. Kelly have been together for a decade, engaged for the past three years, and plan to marry and start a family.

Savage also asked the public to ignore what she describes as falsehoods from her family and to continue praying for Kelly as he serves his federal prison sentence. She expressed hope that he would soon be released.

Her family, represented by attorney Gerald Griggs, maintains they haven’t had direct contact with Joycelyn in years. Savage attributes the silence to her own decision, emphasising that the distance is due to strained personal ties, not anything sinister.

R. Kelly is currently serving time after being convicted in 2021 for racketeering and sex trafficking, followed by a 2022 conviction for child pornography and enticing minors for sex. Most recently, he claimed there was an attempt on his life in prison, resulting in a hospital visit.
