Former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his weight behind Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, for the Ashanti Regional chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He hailed him as the “incoming chairman.”
Akufo-Addo made the endorsement on Friday, 19 September, at the commissioning of a new NPP constituency office in Bantama, Kumasi. The event drew senior party figures, including former president John Agyekum Kufuor.

Akufo-Addo also used the platform to criticise the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, describing it as “abysmal.” He urged the NPP to anchor its comeback campaign on the achievements of both his government and that of former president Kufuor.
With the Ashanti Region regarded as the NPP’s electoral stronghold, the forthcoming regional chairmanship contest is seen as a pivotal step in the party’s 2028 comeback strategy.
