The Ghana Police Service has refuted widespread rumours alleging that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed away.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Service assured the public that the IGP is ‘alive and well and going about his duties as expected.’

According to the Police, the claims circulating on social media are not only ‘false and malicious’ but are also intended to create unnecessary panic.

The Service called on police officers, their families, and the general public to ignore the reports, stressing that they have no factual basis.

“We urge the public to disregard all reports suggesting that the Inspector-General of Police has passed away. The IGP is alive, well, and performing his official duties,” the statement emphasized.

The Ghana Police Service condemned the individuals behind the rumour, insisting that actions meant to destabilize public confidence in national security leadership will not be tolerated.

“Spreading disinformation, especially on sensitive matters concerning national security leadership, is an offense punishable under Ghanaian law,” the Service warned.

It added that those responsible for the circulation of such fabricated stories will be identified and prosecuted.

The statement further appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from sharing unverified information, noting that such behaviour can incite public anxiety and undermine trust in state institutions.

“We encourage the public to avoid engaging in unfounded narratives that have the potential to create fear, panic, or undermine public trust in key institutions,” the statement said.
