The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, December 30, 2025, for the rerun of the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election, following a directive from the Tamale High Court.

The court, on Monday, November 24, 2025, ordered that the election be re-conducted within 30 days after annulling the 2024 victory of NPP’s Matthew Nyindam. The EC confirmed that it received an official notice from the Clerk to Parliament on December 8, declaring the Kpandai seat vacant in line with the ruling.

Rerun

According to Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the EC, the rerun will involve the three original candidates who contested the 2024 poll. He urged voters and stakeholders to take note of the new date, assuring that the Commission remains committed to a transparent and credible electoral process.

However, the development has deepened tensions in Parliament. The Minority Caucus has warned that government business will remain stalled until issues surrounding the Kpandai seat are fully resolved.

Earlier in the House, Minority Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh delivered a formal statement before the Caucus erupted into chants that disrupted proceedings, forcing two suspensions and prompting Speaker Alban Bagbin to take the chair. His intervention, however, did little to calm the situation as the Minority demanded the withdrawal of the vacancy notice to the EC and an adjournment of business.

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga pushed back, insisting the House would continue its work “with or without” the Minority’s cooperation.

Amid the heated exchanges, Annoh-Dompreh fired back at Majority members, stating, “You cannot scare me. Whatever I want to say, I’ll say. What can you do?”

The Minority maintains that the Speaker erred by declaring the seat vacant while an appeal is pending, insisting that no government business will proceed smoothly until the Kpandai matter is settled.
