The Supreme Court has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediately suspend all processes and activities relating to the planned Kpandai parliamentary rerun, pending the final determination of a case before the court.

The directive effectively freezes all preparations by the EC for the rerun election until the legal issues surrounding the disputed parliamentary results are fully resolved.

When the case was called on Tuesday, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow the parties additional time for further consideration of the matters before the court.

The Kpandai parliamentary rerun has been mired in legal contestation following disputes arising from the constituency’s parliamentary election, prompting the intervention of the Supreme Court.

Until a final ruling is delivered, the Electoral Commission is barred from taking any steps toward organising, announcing, or conducting the rerun in the Kpandai constituency.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the electoral timetable in Kpandai, as political stakeholders and residents await the court’s determination early next year.
