The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the Ayawaso East Parliamentary By-Election will be held on Tuesday, March 3.
The by-election has become necessary following the unfortunate death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr Mahama Naser Toure.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Mr Samuel Tettey, the Commission said it would receive nominations from prospective candidates seeking to contest the parliamentary seat.
According to the statement, nominations will be received at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the Commission at North Ridge from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11. The nomination exercise will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The EC said interested candidates are required to download nomination forms from the Commission’s official website from Friday, January 16, to Wednesday, February 11.
It explained that completed nomination forms may be delivered personally by the candidate or on their behalf by either the proposer or seconder to the Returning Officer at the designated office within the stated period.
The Commission noted that each nomination form must be witnessed by two registered voters in the constituency, serving as proposer and seconder, and supported by 18 other registered voters assenting to the nomination. The forms must also be endorsed with the candidate’s consent.
Additionally, candidates are required to submit two copies of a recent postcard-size bust photograph taken against a red background, clearly showing the full face and ears.
The statement further indicated that the filing fee for the election is GH¢10,000.00 per candidate, while female candidates and persons with disabilities will pay a reduced fee of GH¢7,500.00.
All completed nomination forms are to be submitted in quadruplicate. The Commission urged the general public and all interested parties to take note and be guided accordingly.
The announcement is in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, as amended.
