Berekum Chelsea player shot dead in highway robbery attack

A player of Berekum Chelsea, Dominic Frimpong, has been shot dead in a suspected armed robbery attack on the team’s bus along the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo Region.

According to reports, armed men blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle, forcing players and club officials to flee into nearby bushes in an attempt to escape the attack.

In the chaos, Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he received emergency treatment.

However, he died while being prepared for transfer to a higher-level medical facility.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Ghana football community, raising fresh concerns about safety on major highways.

Dominic Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with his contract expected to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The young midfielder had been one of the club’s emerging talents, making 13 league appearances and scoring two goals this season.

He had earned praise for his growing influence in the squad before his untimely death.

Investigations into the attack are expected to begin as authorities work to track down the perpetrators.
