The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) has arrested four individuals connected to Power Distribution Services (PDS) as part of an ongoing probe into suspected financial irregularities involving funds believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The suspects — Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, and Justice Menka-Premoh — were picked up last week in what officials describe as a major step toward unraveling questionable transactions tied to the PDS concession period.

According to investigators, the arrests are part of a broader inquiry into the transfer of large sums of money allegedly transferred from ECG accounts, with the circumstances now being scrutinized for possible breaches of financial and procurement regulations.

All four individuals have since been granted bail but remain under active investigation. Authorities say they are expected to cooperate fully as efforts intensify to trace the flow of funds across multiple accounts.

While specific details of the transactions remain undisclosed, sources close to the investigation indicate that significant amounts are involved, raising fresh concerns about governance lapses and financial accountability during the PDS-ECG arrangement.

The BNI has signaled that further arrests are possible as it works to establish the full scope of the suspected transactions and determine any criminal liability.

The development brings renewed attention to the controversial PDS concession, which has faced persistent criticism over transparency, oversight, and the management of public assets.

Officials say more updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
