A 38-year-old man arrested in connection with an alleged defilement case has been found dead in police custody at Agyei Krom in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality of the Central Region.
The deceased, Emmanuel Cudjoe, was a carpenter and a native of Ayensudo, a suburb of Elmina.
According to police sources, Cudjoe was arrested at about 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, over allegations that he had defiled his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

Police said that at around 11:00 a.m. the same day, officers at the Ghana Police Service discovered the suspect unresponsive in his cell. Preliminary findings suggest he may have used a strip of cloth taken from the edge of a blanket provided to him.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Central Regional Crime Management Team visited the station to begin investigations.
The Crime Scene Management Team processed the scene before the body was conveyed to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed his death.
The body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
