The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art 500-bed children’s hospital at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, disclosing that funding for the ambitious healthcare project has already been secured.
The announcement was made during a courtesy call by officials from the Ministry of Health, who visited the Ga Mantse to discuss healthcare-related issues and strengthen collaboration on public health measures, particularly community protocols aimed at preventing and responding to the threat of the Ebola virus.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss ways of improving healthcare delivery and enhancing preparedness against potential public health emergencies.

He disclosed that engagements with the management and board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had yielded positive results, including the allocation of land for the facility.
“We contacted the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital because they have a vast area on the right side of the hospital when you enter. So they gave us five acres of that land to see if we could design something for a 500-bed children’s hospital.
“I have been able to bring in investors, and we have put in a lot of work. We have met with the board of the hospital, and we are eager to put this project into action.”
The proposed facility is expected to complement existing healthcare services at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which remains Ghana’s premier referral health institution and one of the largest teaching hospitals in West Africa.
The announcement was welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Health, who acknowledged the potential impact such a facility could have on Ghana’s healthcare system.
Expressing appreciation for the initiative, Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, commended the Ga Mantse for his commitment to supporting healthcare development and indicated that the ministry would seek additional information regarding the project.
