Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is expected to unveil details of a GH¢3 billion infrastructure programme aimed at abolishing Ghana’s double-track system in Senior High Schools (SHSs) when he appears at the Government Accountability Series today.
The Minister will present a mid-year assessment of the education sector, highlighting government interventions, infrastructure projects and reforms designed to improve teaching and learning across the country.
Double-track system
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the upcoming presentation in a Facebook post, revealing that the Cabinet-approved infrastructure programme will be a major highlight of the briefing.

According to him, the initiative is intended to address the infrastructure deficit that has forced several Senior High Schools to continue operating the double-track system.
“Tomorrow, Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, will appear at the Government Accountability Series for a Mid-Year Assessment of Education in Ghana,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu wrote.
“Among others, he will break down a GH¢3 billion infrastructure programme approved by Cabinet to abolish the undesirable Double Track system in our Senior High Schools. Don’t miss it.”
Education reforms
The Government Accountability Series provides a platform for ministers to update Ghanaians on the implementation of government policies, programmes and key development projects.
During the briefing, Haruna Iddrisu is expected to provide details on ongoing education reforms, school infrastructure expansion, and measures aimed at improving access to quality education.
The presentation is also expected to explain how the GH¢3 billion investment will help eliminate the double-track system by expanding classroom space, improving school facilities and increasing the capacity of Senior High Schools nationwide.
Government has repeatedly stated its commitment to ending the double-track system through sustained infrastructure development and improved educational planning.
