A late-night fire has destroyed a takeaway facility, rubber warehouse and factory in the Tema Industrial Area, leaving one firefighter injured during an intense operation to bring the blaze under control.
The fire reportedly started at about 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, triggering a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as flames threatened to spread to nearby businesses.
Four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones Fire Stations were deployed to the rubber warehouse to battle the fire and prevent further destruction within the industrial enclave.
The firefighting operation became dangerous when a section of a wall collapsed while personnel were working to contain the blaze.
One firefighter sustained injuries in the incident and was immediately transported to the Tema General Hospital, where the officer is receiving medical treatment.
Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters worked for several hours before successfully bringing the fire under control and extinguishing the flames.
Following the successful firefighting operation, personnel remained at the scene to conduct salvage and overhaul activities.
The ongoing operations are aimed at identifying and eliminating any remaining hotspots while securing the affected structures and preventing a possible rekindling of the fire.
The full extent of the damage caused by the Tema Industrial Area fire is yet to be established.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what triggered the incident.
