The Acting Minister for Defence and Minister for Finance, Honourable Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has officially commissioned the newly constructed Butler Barracks and Offices Complex in Burma Camp.
The ultra-modern facility comprises accommodation blocks, administrative offices, and advanced training facilities. The project was executed to serve the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Central Band, the Central Ordnance Depot (COD), and the School of Ordnance.
This relocation from their former locations along the El-Wak–37 corridors marks a significant upgrade in military infrastructure, providing purpose-built facilities that enhance both operational capacity and personnel welfare.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson emphasized that the project is a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare, working conditions, and operational effectiveness of the GAF.
He praised the Military High Command and the Ministry of Defence for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the project’s successful delivery.
“This newly completed Barracks will significantly improve operational efficiency and the quality of life of our personnel,” the Acting Defence Minister stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing other key defence projects, notably the Afari Military Hospital, while adopting sustainable approaches to military infrastructural development.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, described the commissioning as a historic milestone for GAF. He noted that the new Butler Barracks stands among modern military facilities comparable to those of armed forces across the world.
“Military readiness begins at home,” Air Vice Marshal Mensah-Larkai stressed. “Barracks are not merely accommodation but places where discipline, leadership, and comradeship are strengthened”.
Presenting the project brief, the Director of Engineer Services (DES), Brigadier General Jonas Wiafe, explained that the initiative was undertaken to modernize the infrastructure for the Armed Forces Central Band, the Headquarters of the Central Ordnance Depot, and the School of Ordnance.
Brigadier General Wiafe urged all beneficiaries to uphold the highest standards of maintenance to preserve the facility’s longevity.
He expressed appreciation to Unique Development Limited, the project engineers, and all stakeholders whose commitment ensured the successful completion of the project.
