President John Dramani Mahama has approved a major reorganisation of the National Security Secretariat, with several key appointments and reassignments taking immediate effect.
The changes, announced by the Presidency on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, are aimed at strengthening the country’s national security architecture and improving coordination across key operational and intelligence functions.
Under the new arrangement, Major (Rtd.) General William Ayamdo, a former Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Operations.

The appointment brings his extensive military experience into a key operational role within the National Security Secretariat.
Former National Security Coordinator Yaw Donkor has also been reassigned. He has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Research at the Office of the National Security Advisor.
The reorganisation also affects several other senior positions.
Adamu Saaka has been appointed Director of Logistics and Transport, while Faustina Effah-Boadi has been named Officer in Charge of the Human Security Department.
In another key appointment, DCOP (Rtd.) Peter Ndekugri has been appointed Officer in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit.
Meanwhile, ACP Alhassan Osman has been reassigned to the Ghana Police Service for further deployment.
The Presidency said the appointments and reassignments form part of President Mahama’s broader efforts to reorganise the National Security Council Secretariat and enhance the effectiveness of the national security system.
All the appointments and reassignments take immediate effect.
