Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has appealed to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to turn to God in fervent, selfless prayers as the party seeks to reclaim its lost glory.
According to him, the NPP needs the collective prayers of its members at what he described as a critical period for the party.
Afenyo-Markin appealed in an interview on Asaasepa FM, where he urged party members, particularly those with spiritual inclinations, to put aside personal ambitions and pray for the NPP.

He expressed confidence that collective and selfless prayers could help transform the party’s fortunes, drawing parallels with the NPP’s victory in the 2016 general election.
“If all your energies are coming together for a cause, there is a greater impact. So, the spiritual people in the party should pray for the party. They should pray selflessly for the party. We should pray for the party; the battle is the Lord’s.”
The Minority Leader recalled how some NPP women reportedly organised prayer sessions at the residence of then-party flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the party’s time in opposition.
“I remember Cynthia Morrison. She had a group, and they used to pray at Nana Addo’s residence every evening. When we were in opposition, it was the women whose prayers turned things around for the party,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin maintained that prayer played an important role in sustaining the NPP during its years in opposition and could once again help the party overcome its current challenges.
“Having women in your party is good because if they decide to come together to pray, whatever machinations of the NDC will not see the light of day. It was prayer that sustained the NPP,” he stated.
The Minority Leader also urged NPP members to put aside individual ambitions and concentrate on rebuilding the party.
He appealed to members to avoid internal competition and instead unite behind the party’s broader objectives.
“Prayer will turn things around, and you will see that things will change and that Bawumia becomes the favourite of the people. Let’s pray and stop individual competition,” he said.
His comments come as the NPP prepares for the next general election under the leadership of its 2028 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with calls for unity and a renewed focus on rebuilding the party following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
