James Agalga thanks Ghanaians after appointment as Majority Leader

Newly appointed Majority Leader in Parliament, James Agalga, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the confidence reposed in him following his elevation to the leadership position.

In a statement, Mr. Agalga thanked President John Dramani Mahama, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), members of the Majority Caucus and the people of Builsa North for their support and congratulatory messages.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to all Ghanaians who have sent congratulatory messages,” he said.

The Builsa North MP also expressed appreciation to the President and the leadership of the governing NDC for the confidence placed in him.

He pledged to work with colleagues to advance the government’s RESET Agenda and support legislation aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.

“We remain committed to working together to drive the government’s RESET Agenda and to champion legislation that delivers real benefits to every Ghanaian,” Mr Agalga stated.

He concluded his message with the rallying call: “Aluta continua, victoria certa – The struggle continues, victory is certain.”

Mr Agalga’s appointment comes as part of changes to the leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament.

Personal Profile

James Agalga is the Member of Parliament for the Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region, a seat he has held since January 2013 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Agalga was born in Chuchuliga in the Upper East Region on 10 June 1979. He had his secondary education at Navrongo Senior High School before proceeding to the University of Ghana, where he graduated with an LLB (Hons) in 2002.

He later obtained his Bachelor of Law (B.L) from the Ghana School of Law in 2004, qualifying him as a lawyer. In 2018, he further strengthened his academic credentials with a Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security.

Before fully immersing himself in politics, Agalga built a solid legal career. He served as the Managing Partner of Law Temple from 2008 to 2013, was an Associate at the Centre for Public Interest Law, and also worked as a Barrister at NDEZEB Law Consult.

Political Career

Agalga has represented the Builsa North Constituency in Parliament since January 2013 and has been a consistent voice within the NDC caucus. He previously served as Deputy Minister for Interior under the John Mahama administration, giving him direct experience in governance and public administration.

Within Parliament, he served on several key committees during the Sixth Parliament, including the Members Holding Offices of Profit Committee, the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, and the Appointments Committee. He also served as Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee.

Personal Life

James Agalga is married to Irene, and the couple have two children, Florence and James Jr. He is a Catholic.
