Parliament’s Appointments Committee has scheduled the vetting of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for Thursday, August 27, 2026, following their nomination by President John Dramani Mahama for ministerial positions.
The two nominees were initially expected to appear before the committee on Wednesday, August 26, alongside two nominees for appointment to the Supreme Court.
However, the vetting of Mahama Ayariga and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been rescheduled for Thursday.
The development follows the decision by Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on Monday, August 24, to refer the nominations to the Appointments Committee for consideration and vetting.

Mahama Ayariga, who is currently the Majority Leader in Parliament, has been nominated as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has been nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
Their nominations form part of President Mahama’s first ministerial reshuffle in his second term.
The two nominees will be required to appear before the Appointments Committee to answer questions on their experience, proposed ministerial responsibilities and plans for their respective sectors.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the ministerial changes on August 7, 2026, in what became his first major reshuffle since beginning his second term in office.
Under the changes, substantive Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim was reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Mahama Ayariga was subsequently nominated to take over the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was also nominated to lead the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
The Works and Housing Minister, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, was reassigned to the Ministry of Defence.
The changes were announced in a statement issued by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu on August 7.
The Appointments Committee is also considering nominations for two vacancies at the Supreme Court.
The two Supreme Court nominees are scheduled to appear before the committee on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The vetting forms part of Parliament’s constitutional responsibility to scrutinise presidential nominations before they are submitted to the House for approval.
The committee’s consideration of the nominees is therefore expected to attract significant attention as Parliament processes President Mahama’s latest appointments.
