Salam Mustapha has withdrawn from the contest for National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing ‘circumstances beyond my control.’
Mr Mustapha formally communicated his decision in a letter to the Chairman of the NPP National Officers Elections Committee on Wednesday, September 9.
He said the decision was difficult, particularly because of the encouragement and support he had received from NPP members, delegates, colleagues and well-wishers across the country.

“This decision has been a difficult one, particularly considering the encouragement, goodwill and overwhelming support I have received from Party members, delegates, colleagues and well-wishers across the country. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to continue with my candidature,” he wrote.
Mr Mustapha did not disclose the specific circumstances that influenced his decision to withdraw from the NPP National Organiser race.
Despite stepping down, he stressed that his commitment to the party remains firm and that he will continue to contribute to its rebuilding and electoral prospects.
“My dedication to the Party remains firm, and I will continue to serve and contribute towards its unity, rebuilding and electoral success, and also to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next president of Ghana,” he stated.
He also appealed to his supporters to accept his decision in good faith and remain focused on the broader interests of the NPP.
“Political positions may come and go, but our commitment to the NPP and the future of our Party must remain greater than any individual ambition,” he said.
Mr Mustapha subsequently wished the party and the remaining candidates well as the NPP prepares to elect its next crop of national officers.
His withdrawal comes as the NPP national executive elections draw closer, with several candidates contesting key national positions.
The National Organiser position is one of the important offices being contested as the party seeks to rebuild its structures and strengthen its preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Mustapha’s decision reduces the field for the National Organiser position, although he has not indicated that his withdrawal will affect his broader involvement in the party.
He has instead reaffirmed his intention to support the unity and rebuilding of the NPP and contribute to the party’s electoral success.
The former candidate’s decision also comes amid heightened activity within the NPP as aspirants campaign for support ahead of the national elections and the party positions itself for the next general election.
