Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwadaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region are demanding the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Eric Asibey, from office.
Comprising ward coordinators, branch executives, youth organisers and other party members, they accused the Kwadaso MCE of failing to adequately engage the party’s grassroots structures and respond to concerns raised by members.
They presented a petition to the constituency executives during a demonstration, calling on President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff, the Minister for Local Government, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and the NDC’s national, regional and constituency leadership to revoke Mr Asibey’s appointment.

The protesters said the MCE’s alleged failure to address their concerns had weakened engagement between the municipal administration and the party’s grassroots structures.
Speaking to journalists, the Youth Organiser for the Sofoline Branch, Abdul Aziz Haruna, said the grassroots have made several attempts to engage the MCE over issues affecting party supporters and constituents.
According to him, the group submitted recommendations aimed at creating opportunities for party members and improving the welfare of residents in the municipality.
He said the failure to act on those recommendations had left the protesters with no option but to publicly demonstrate and present their concerns through a formal petition.
The protesters also raised concerns about the implementation of the government’s Nkoko Nketekete initiative in the constituency.
They alleged that Kwadaso received slightly more than 3,000 birds under the programme, rather than the 10,000 birds they expected.
Mr Asibey has, however, rejected the allegations levelled against him, insisting that there is no discrimination in his administration.
He also dismissed the claims surrounding his engagement with constituents and party supporters, saying his priority remains delivering on President Mahama’s mandate in the Kwadaso Municipality.
“What they are saying has no evidence. I can say that they are only trying to concoct something for public consumption. There is no discrimination,” he said.
The demonstration comes amid discussions within the Kwadaso NDC over grassroots mobilisation and engagement.
The constituency leadership has recently stressed the need to strengthen the party’s presence and support base in the area, making grassroots engagement a key issue in the ongoing discussions.
