Sissala West MP Mohammed Adams Sukparu has appealed for calm and restraint following a deadly land dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities in the Sissala West District of Ghana’s Upper West Region.
According to a statement by the MP, the incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, claimed the lives of two people and left others injured.
He expressed regret over the development and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, while wishing those injured a speedy and full recovery.

“I am deeply saddened and concerned by reports of a land-related dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Regional Security Council and the District Security Council have deployed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to the affected communities.
According to the MP, the security deployment is intended to help restore and maintain calm while investigations into the incident continue.
Hon. Sukparu urged residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to remain calm and refrain from retaliation, provocation or any actions that could worsen tensions.
He warned that further escalation could result in additional loss of lives and destruction of property.
“As a son of both communities, I appeal to our chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, women and all stakeholders to use their influence to promote peace and prevent further escalation,” he said.
The Sissala West MP stressed that disagreements over land or boundaries should not be allowed to result in further loss of life.
“Whatever differences exist between us, no land or boundary dispute is worth the loss of another human life,” he added.
Hon. Sukparu called on all parties and residents to cooperate fully with the security agencies as investigations continue.
He encouraged anyone with information relevant to the incident to provide it to the appropriate authorities to help establish the facts and ensure that due process is followed.
The Sissala West MP’s appeal comes as security personnel remain deployed in the affected communities following the reported deaths and injuries.
He also called on traditional leaders, community elders, youth groups, women and other stakeholders to use their influence to promote dialogue and prevent further tensions between the two communities.
The circumstances surrounding the dispute remain subject to investigation by the security agencies.
The Sissala West MP urged residents to prioritise peace, restraint and cooperation as authorities work to establish what led to the deadly Buo–Tiwii land dispute.
