Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the introduction of pre-screening checks by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) at the entrance to the Departure Hall of the Accra International Airport.
Under the new security arrangement, passengers travelling through the airport will be required to undergo luggage screening before entering the Departure Hall and proceeding to check-in.
According to a public notice issued by GACL on October 2, the enhanced screening will involve the use of scanning machines and sniffer dogs.

The company said the pre-screening checks are part of measures to strengthen security at the airport and noted that similar procedures are conducted at several international airports around the world.
GACL has therefore advised all departing passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for the additional screening procedures.
The three-hour recommendation is intended to give passengers adequate time to complete security screening, check-in and other required boarding formalities without unnecessary pressure.
The company also announced restrictions on access to the Departure Hall as part of the new security measures.
Only travelling passengers will be allowed to enter the Departure Hall, while non-travelling persons will not be permitted access.
GACL urged passengers and other airport users to cooperate with the new arrangements as security agencies intensify efforts to protect travellers and airport facilities.
The company said it is working with the relevant security agencies to strengthen security while maintaining safe, secure and efficient airport operations.
The enhanced pre-screening measures come amid increased attention to security and narcotics control at Ghana’s airports and other entry and exit points.
Passengers using Accra International Airport are therefore encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and arrive early to avoid delays arising from the additional screening procedures.
