The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new team of national executives to lead the party as it reorganises its structures and begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.

The elections were held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where more than 7,000 delegates gathered for the party’s National Delegates Conference.

Former Ngleshie Amanfro Member of Parliament Sylvester Tetteh placed second with 1,340 votes, while former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi obtained 162 votes. Dr Charles Dwamena polled 129 votes.

Mr Kodua’s re-election gives him another term to oversee the party’s administrative and organisational affairs as it seeks to strengthen its structures ahead of the next general election.

The three emerged from a field of 13 candidates, with Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid finishing fourth with 2,956 votes.

The conference also formed part of a broader restructuring process undertaken by the NPP, which began at the polling station level and progressed through the electoral area, constituency and regional levels before culminating in the national elections.

The party had earlier considered and approved proposed amendments to portions of its constitution, including changes relating to the position of the party leader while the NPP is in opposition.

Addressing party members after the elections, NPP Flagbearer and Leader Dr Mahamudu Bawumia congratulated the newly elected national executives and called on all members to unite immediately.

He urged candidates who contested the various positions to put their differences aside and work together towards the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.

“Tonight, elections are over; all the camps will dissolve and let us have one NPP camp and rule and win 2028,” Dr Bawumia said.

He stressed that the internal elections should not create divisions within the party, insisting that the NPP itself was the ultimate winner.

“Our party is a democratic party, and when you have elections, you will have competition. And for those who did not win, I must let you know that it is not about who won. It is the NPP that won this election. You did not lose. The NPP won,” he said.

Dr Bawumia also cautioned the new leadership against delaying preparations for the next election, saying there was “no time to waste”.

He urged the national executives to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, mobilise members and develop effective strategies for the 2028 election.

The newly elected national executives are expected to work together to consolidate the party’s structures and coordinate its activities as it seeks to rebuild following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The conference therefore marks a significant stage in the NPP’s internal reorganisation, with the new leadership now tasked with managing the party’s affairs and preparing its grassroots for the next electoral contest.

The newly elected national executives are expected to work together to strengthen the NPP’s grassroots structures, improve internal coordination and mobilise the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The conference marks the completion of the party’s latest internal reorganisation and ushers in a new leadership team tasked with steering the NPP’s affairs and preparing it for the next electoral contest.
