The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital)Â has begun supplying medical oxygen to customers outside the facility as part of efforts to improve access to the essential healthcare resource.
The service is available to other health facilities and individuals who require medical oxygen, expanding the hospital’s operations beyond meeting the needs of its own patients.
The initiative is intended to help address challenges associated with the availability of medical oxygen and ensure a more dependable supply for healthcare delivery.

Previously, the hospital’s oxygen production was largely reserved for patients receiving treatment at the facility, but the decision to sell to external buyers has created an additional source of supply for eligible consumers.
The hospital’s oxygen production system involves compressing atmospheric air before passing it through a series of filters designed to remove moisture and other unwanted particles, including bacteria.
The processed oxygen is subsequently channelled through a pipeline network to hospital wards, where it reaches patients through designated outlets. Staff also monitor pressure levels within the system to ensure oxygen is supplied at the appropriate pressure.
Speaking to Citi FM, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Juliana Haruna, disclosed that commercial sales of medical oxygen commenced around February 2026.
She explained that the initiative was introduced by management to enhance healthcare delivery by ensuring the consistent availability of oxygen for both internal use and external supply.
