The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Faustina Akurugu Elikplim, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, as the duly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya.
The announcement, made by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, December 31, resolves the prolonged disputes between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC over the constituency’s election results.
“We are pleased to announce that the proceedings and collation at the Dome Kwabenya Constituency have concluded. The outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed at the polls. Our responsibility is to ensure the people’s choice is upheld,” Jean Mensa stated.
Following a re-collation of votes, Faustina Akurugu Elikplim secured 50,967 votes, narrowly defeating the NPP’s Mike Oquaye Junior, who obtained 50,669 votes.
The EC’s decision cancels the planned re-run at the outstanding polling station in the constituency, solidifying the NDC’s victory. Faustina Akurugu Elikplim is now set to assume her role as the MP for Dome Kwabenya.
