The Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wamkele Mene, has expressed gratitude to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his unwavering support to the AfCFTA Secretariat during his tenure as Vice President of Ghana.
During a visit on Friday, January 17, 2025, the Secretary General also took the opportunity to praise Dr. Bawumia for his statesmanship in conceding defeat promptly after the recent presidential elections.
Ghana’s democracy, he said, was enhanced further by the singular act of statesmanship
He said, “Ghana’s democratic credentials were further strengthened when you conceded defeat less than 24 hours after the presidential elections.”
“You have indeed shown that you love your country and its people.”
The two also discussed the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, with a specific focus on advancing cross-border digital payments, a critical component of boosting intra-African trade.
He encouraged Dr. Bawumia to continue contributing to Ghana’s progress, commending his dedication to national development and his pivotal role in strengthening the AfCFTA.
