Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has urged leaders across the continent to demonstrate stronger solidarity within the framework of Pan-Africanism, emphasizing the need for collective action to promote democracy, political stability, and development.
Addressing the First Ordinary Session of the year at the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Speaker Bagbin stressed the importance of collective efforts in realizing the aspirations of the African people.
“We must work together to build stronger, more resilient democratic institutions that will ensure good governance and sustainable development across our continent,” he said.

As the head of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL), Bagbin noted that the gathering provided an ideal platform for pan-African lawmakers to tackle critical issues like constitutional democracy, governance, and sustainable development.
“This session is a testament to our shared vision of strengthening regional institutions and fostering greater unity among African nations,” he added.
A significant point of discussion was the economic cooperation within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Bagbin underscored the need for African nations to deepen trade relations, enhance industrial capacity, and pursue accelerated industrialization to boost the continent’s position in the global economy.
“We must work together to maximize our competitive advantages and build a stronger, more prosperous Africa,” he said.
Reflecting on Ghana’s recent political transition, Bagbin praised the peaceful shift of power following the 2024 elections, calling it a sign of Ghana’s continued commitment to democratic consolidation.
Ghana’s successful election, he said, is a testament to the commitment to the entrenchment of democracy and urged the support of parliaments across Africa in promoting good governance.
On the security, Bagbin called for regional cooperation to combat terrorism, particularly in West Africa, where the threat is spreading.
“We must come together to address the growing challenge of terrorism, which threatens the peace and stability of our nations,” he stressed.
He stressed the urgent need for cooperation to tackle climate change and other existential threats facing the continent.
Reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to Côte d’Ivoire, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the historical ties between the two countries, noting their collaboration in promoting peace and development in the West African sub-region.
According to him, Ghana deeply values its relationship with Côte d’Ivoire and is committed to strengthening their partnership in promoting democracy, peace, trade, and development.
