The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has ordered the National Communications Authority (NCA) to immediately act against six radio stations that are operating without valid frequency authorizations.
A statement released on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, revealed that Fire Group of Companies (Sunyani), I-Zar Consult Limited (Tamale), Abochannel Media Group (Adidome), Okyeame Radio Limited (Bibiani), Mumen Bono Foundation (Techiman), and Osikani Community FM (Nkrankwanta) have violated Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).
Their offences include failing to renew authorizations, neglecting statutory payment obligations, and not submitting required documentation on time.
As a result, their licenses have expired, rendering their continued operations unlawful.
Radio frequency
The Ministry reaffirmed that broadcasting without a valid frequency authorization is illegal and warned that the NCA will take necessary measures to shut down unauthorized transmissions.
This directive forms part of a broader initiative to enforce regulatory compliance within Ghana’s broadcasting industry. The Ministry urged all license holders to adhere strictly to established guidelines.
“The frequency authorization audit remains ongoing, and further actions will be announced in due course,” the statement concluded.
This crackdown underscores the government’s firm stance against illegal broadcasting and serves as a warning to other non-compliant operators across the country.
