The controversy surrounding thousands of allegedly missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port has taken a fresh twist, with Hon. Collins Adomako-Mensah, Deputy Ranking Member of the Energy Committee, vehemently challenging recent reports suggesting their ‘retrieval.’
He has described the development as ‘strange and troubling,’ demanding the Minister for Energy to appear before Parliament with a full disclosure on the matter.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, May 27, the Effiduase-Asokore MP rejected the narrative, particularly as captured by The Daily Graphic, which stated the containers had been ‘retrieved.’ According to Hon. Adomako-Mensah, the containers were never truly missing, a contradiction he asserts raises serious questions about the government’s handling of the issue.

“We vehemently disagree with the claim that these containers were missing and have now been retrieved. According to the Daily Graphic, they’ve been found at the same port. So how could they have been missing in the first place?” he declared.
the Deputy Ranking recalled that the issue first came to public light when the Minister disclosed that 202,491 containers were uncleared at the port. A committee was subsequently established to probe the matter, and it was reported that over 1,134 containers were unaccounted for.
He said, “We all saw the Minister with National Security and other stakeholders inspecting containers that were supposedly part of the missing batch. And now suddenly, we are being told a total of 2,637 containers have been found—at the same location.”
The Minority, he stated, finds this revelation deeply concerning and insists on clear answers from the Ministry. “This is not just about arithmetic. It’s about transparency and accountability. We are calling on the Minister to come clean with the facts and appear before Parliament to give us a full briefing on what has transpired over the past three months,” he emphasized.
He pointed out the perplexing situation concerning the former Board Chairman of ECG, who had faced pressure to resign over the supposed missing containers. “Today, we are being told by the same people that the containers were never really missing. So what exactly is going on?” he queried.
Hon. Adomako-Mensah stressed that the Minority is “not prepared to accept vague explanations or shifting narratives.”
“Our position is clear: the containers were not retrieved—they were found, meaning they were never missing in the first place. This government owes Ghanaians the truth, not convenient headlines,” he reiterated.
