The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee has announced a temporary suspension and review of its Elections Calendar following the receipt of multiple petitions challenging the eligibility of certain candidates, as well as the withdrawal of a regional aspirant.
Originally scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, the national and regional elections may now face delays, the Committee disclosed in a statement signed by Peter Martey Agbeko, Chairman of the Elections Committee.
“The Committee has received some petitions challenging the eligibility of some candidates, which it is carefully reviewing and investigating,” the statement noted.

The situation has been further complicated by the sudden withdrawal of a candidate for the position of Vice-Chairman in the Volta Region. As a result, nominations for that particular position will be re-opened on Monday, June 9, 2025, for seven days to allow for new entries.
With these developments, other critical steps in the electoral process—including balloting for positions—are being revised to reflect the changing circumstances and to ensure a fair playing field.
“Critical electoral activities must be revised to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Association’s electoral guidelines,” the statement emphasized.
The GJA Elections Committee assured members that a revised Elections Calendar would be published shortly, urging patience and continued support from the association’s members.
“We assure all members that the Committee is working diligently to address all issues in a fair and timely manner,” it added.
The GJA has emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity and credibility of its democratic processes, even in the face of unforeseen challenges.
