Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, is on a high-level working visit to the United Kingdom, championing a bold agenda to overhaul and commercialize Ghana’s sports infrastructure, with a key focus on the Borteyman Sports Complex.

During his strategic tour of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Minister revealed an ambitious plan to transform Borteyman into a “Sport-Event-Edu” hub, a significant pivot from the previous government’s abandoned vision of a sports university.

“We are creating a centre that integrates sport, events, and education—one that serves Ghana and inspires Africa,” he stated.

Borteyman Complex is the first of its kind in Ghana. Features include: 1,000-seater Olympic-size Swimming Pool; 10-lane Competition Pool + 8-lane Warm-up Pool; 1,000-seater Sports Hall & Centre Court; and 500-seater Dome

Kofi Adams emphasized that the facility must not suffer the fate of many African venues—underutilised and poorly maintained. His remedy?

A Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.

The Minister is in active talks with Greenwich Leisure Limited—operators of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park—and International Venue Management, to explore: Interim operational support; Advisory on international best practices and a sustainable business model for Ghana’s sporting venues

“We’re crafting a roadmap for sports infrastructure that’s not just fit-for-purpose, but fit for progress,” Adams declared.
