The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on the Ghana Police Service, accusing the institution of acting in bad faith by deliberately obstructing the completion of the Ablekuma North parliamentary results collation.

The party alleges that the police have refused to execute a court order mandating them to provide security for the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the process.

In a statement issued following its National Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the NPP threatened to initiate a series of actions to ensure the “democratic rights of the people of Ablekuma North are upheld.”

The party expressed profound concern over what it described as the “contemptuous conduct of the Ghana Police who are working under the instruction of the Minister for Interior and the Attorney General” in their alleged failure and refusal to comply with a High Court order. This order, according to the NPP, directed the police to provide security to the EC to enable the completion of the Ablekuma North parliamentary results collation. The EC has reportedly confirmed that no legal injunction prevents them from concluding the collation and declaring the results.

The NPP asserted that the only reason why His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are purportedly preventing the police from securing the EC for the final collation of the outstanding three polling stations is their alleged awareness of having lost the election in that constituency. The NPP further accused the NDC of “using the Police to frustrate this exercise and deny the good people of Ablekuma North a parliamentary representation.”

The party issued a terse warning that in the coming days, it will roll out a series of actions to get the powers that be to uphold the democratic rights of the people of Ablekuma North.
