The meeting, described as both cordial and forward-looking, centred on issues of women’s leadership, the need to mentor young women, and the urgent enforcement of the Affirmative Action Law to expand opportunities for women in governance and national development.

“The MPs reaffirmed their solidarity and emphasised the importance of enforcing the Affirmative Action Law to deepen women’s participation in leadership and decision-making,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Expressing heartfelt appreciation, the Vice President congratulated the MPs on their individual and collective accomplishments and encouraged them to use their positions to uplift others.

“I underscored the importance of extending the opportunities we have received to the next generation. We need to reach out to other aspiring women, offering mentorship and encouragement to help them rise,” she stated.

The Vice President also commended the MPs for their resilience and service, stressing the critical role women continue to play in Ghana’s democracy.

“As women leaders, we have a responsibility not just to lead effectively, but to ensure that more women are empowered to take up space at every level. This meeting was a reminder of how far we’ve come—and how far we still need to go,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called for continued collaboration and dialogue to strengthen the administration’s development agenda. “We must work together to advance the transformative vision of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, especially in areas such as gender equity, good governance, and sustainable national development,” she added.

The MPs pledged their continued support for the government’s gender agenda and reiterated their commitment to promoting policies that break barriers and build a more inclusive Ghana.
