The Dean of the Parliamentary Press Corps, Simon Agianab, has passionately urged the Clerk to Parliament to revisit a critical request for a monthly allowance to support journalists covering the House.
The plea, initially made during the Corps’ executive swearing-in ceremony, received a commitment from the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to address the issue.
Speaking at a wo-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Media Relations Directorate on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Mr. Agianab called on the Clerk to remind the Speaker of his promise.
The workshop, designed to enhance journalists’ understanding of parliamentary democracy, featured expert-led sessions, practical training, and peer learning to elevate the quality of parliamentary reportage.
Simon Agianab expressed profound gratitude to the Speaker and Clerk for their swift approval of the workshop. “On behalf of the Parliamentary Press Corps, I extend heartfelt thanks for recognizing the vital role we play in fostering transparency and accountability,” he said.
He lauded the Media Relations Directorate for orchestrating what he called a ‘game-changing’ initiative to empower journalists to demystify complex parliamentary processes for the public.
He emphasized that the workshop would equip Corps members to craft compelling narratives that make parliamentary proceedings accessible to everyday Ghanaians.
“Let us seize this opportunity to learn, grow, and network, committing to use our enhanced skills to promote transparency, accountability, and public trust in our democracy,” Agianab urged.
The workshop is expected to enhance parliamentary coverage and strengthen the media’s role as a crucial link between the legislature and the citizenry.
