Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly dismissed media reports suggesting he is attempting to overturn the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to hold early primaries or postpone its upcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for July 19.
In a forceful statement issued by his office, the former president described the claims published by Otec FM Ghana and GhanaWeb as “completely false” and without merit.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state emphatically that these reports are completely false,” the statement emphasised.

The clarification also stated that President Akufo-Addo has been outside the country for some time and has made no such petition or request to the party through any official or unofficial channel.
“He does not have any such intentions to postpone the conference,” the statement stressed.
The office of the former president further accused the authors of the reports of pursuing their agenda, which it said has no bearing on the interests or progress of the NPP.
“Clearly, those behind these publications have an agenda of their own, which has nothing to do with improving the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),” the statement added.
The public was therefore urged to treat the reports with the contempt they deserve, with the former president’s office labelling them as “unfounded and misleading.”
The NPP is set to hold its National Delegates Conference on July 19, where crucial leadership decisions will be made ahead of the 2026 general elections.
