Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga has praised Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for his bold and optimistic presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, despite tensions marked by a Minority walkout during the parliamentary session on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Speaking in Parliament, Ayariga urged members to focus on the budget’s positive aspects and reaffirmed the Majority’s support for the Finance Minister.

“We thank the Minister of Finance for bringing the Mid-Year Review to us. We are very grateful to him, and we will continue to assure him of our support,” he said.
The Minority caucus staged a walkout before Dr. Ato Forson’s presentation, protesting what they described as escalating electoral violence and illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana. They marched to the Jubilee House to present a petition to President Mahama.
Ayariga, however, attributed the walkout to the strength of the government’s economic message, stating, “The walkout is a result of the good news that the Finance Minister was bringing. The Minister has steered us through troubled waters, and we acknowledge that effort.”
Dr. Ato Forson’s presentation highlighted significant improvements in Ghana’s external sector, including increased gross international reserves and enhanced import cover.
The 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review addressed public concerns over inflation, currency stability, and the IMF-supported Post-COVID Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG), emphasising the government’s commitment to fiscal consolidation, job creation, and industrial growth.
Ayariga expressed confidence in the government’s direction, urging the House to advance its policy agenda and proceed with parliamentary business.
