Ghana is in mourning following the passing of one of its greatest musical icons, Charles Kojo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba.
The beloved highlife legend died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness, according to an official statement released by the Fosu family.

A statement from the family confirming the sad news reads: “With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon. Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.”
Born on September 29, 1964, Daddy Lumba was a towering figure in Ghanaian music, with a career spanning more than three decades. He was celebrated for blending traditional highlife rhythms with contemporary sounds, producing timeless classics such as Aben Wo Ha, Theresa, Sika Asem, and Yentie Obiaa.
News of his passing has triggered a nationwide outpouring of grief. Social media has been flooded with emotional tributes from fans, fellow musicians, and public figures alike, all mourning a man whose influence transcended generations.
