The generous gesture was announced on the floor of Parliament by the Minority leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, on Tuesday during a statement delivered by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, to honour and commend the Black Queens for their impressive run at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Addressing the House, the Hon. Afenyo-Markin praised the Black Queens for demonstrating excellence, patriotism, and determination, noting that their achievements continue to inspire the youth of Ghana and uplift the nation’s spirit.

“This donation is a token of appreciation from the Minority Caucus for the pride and hope you bring to the people of Ghana. We must go beyond mere words and provide tangible support to our female athletes, who often face challenges that their male counterparts do not,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
The GH¢100,000 donation is expected to support the team’s logistics, welfare, and preparations ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
Bronze medal
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, paid glowing tribute to the Black Queens for their heroic performance and bronze medal finish at the competition and described the team as ‘history makers.
He lauded their resilience, tactical maturity, and discipline throughout a tournament that tested their limits.
“As a proud Ghanaian, Mr. Speaker, I rise today to commend the remarkable performance of the Black Queens. They sit with us in this chamber today not just as athletes, but as national heroes who have brought pride and honour to Ghana,” the Minister declared.
Members of the House congratulated the Black Queens on their achievement and urged the Ministry to provide institutional support, better training facilities, and equitable financial rewards comparable to those provided to the senior men’s team, the Black Stars.
