Former Roads and Highways Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has launched a scathing attack on his successor, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, accusing him of distorting facts and engaging in political propaganda over Ghana’s road infrastructure record.
Mr. Agbodza recently cast doubt on the previous administration’s claim of constructing over 13,000 kilometers of roads, calling the figures inflated and unfounded based on his nationwide assessments. But Asenso-Boakye fired back, labeling the accusations as misleading and deliberately deceptive.
“The claim that we constructed 13,724 kilometers of roads between 2017 and 2024 is not only accurate but fully backed by engineering data. These include new constructions, graveling, upgrading, and partial reconstructions,” Asenso-Boakye said.

He stressed that the data wasn’t cooked up by politicians, but verified by professional engineers at the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate. Ionically, the only unit Agbodza retained during his recent reshuffle.
“If he doubts the data, why not question the very Director who supervised and reported these figures under both administrations? This cowardly avoidance and blame-shifting must stop,” Asenso-Boakye fumed.
The former minister didn’t stop there. He accused Agbodza of hypocrisy over procurement practices, slamming him for now defending single-source procurement, a method he vehemently opposed under the Akufo-Addo government.
“At his press conference, he casually said the procurement method doesn’t matter once engineers give estimates. Is this not the same man who demonized us for doing exactly that? This is blatant double standards.”
He urged Agbodza to protect the Ministry’s integrity and steer clear of partisan spin. “The Ministry of Roads and Highways is a technical institution, not a political megaphone. If he wants credibility, he must stick to facts, not fiction,” he stressed.
