Management of Akosombo Hotels Limited (AHL), operators of the iconic Volta Hotel, has refuted media reports alleging mismanagement and poor leadership at the facility, describing the claims as false and misleading.
A statement issued by AHL management dismissed a publication on classfmonline.com titled ‘Volta Hotel fails to meet requirement for 3-star hotel over mismanagement and bad leadership’, which has since been shared widely across several media platforms.
“The claim that AHL’s three-star rating has been revoked is inaccurate,” the statement emphasized.
“Following a recent inspection by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), management was provided with a list of areas to improve to retain the rating. Over 80% of these recommendations have been implemented, pending re-inspection by GTA.”
AHL admitted it is working under financial constraints but noted that a significant portion of the facility’s revenue continues to be reinvested into facility maintenance and service delivery.
The publication in question had cited five specific projects allegedly mismanaged by AHL, which the hotel addressed point by point:
- Swimming Pool – The hotel acknowledged infrastructure challenges but explained that phased repairs are ongoing due to cash flow limitations.
- Container Refrigeration – AHL clarified that the system required major servicing, resulting in the replacement of non-functioning components. The unit is now fully operational.
- Cold-Rooms – The outdated analogue cold-room systems have been replaced with modern digitised units, which are now functioning effectively.
- Vehicle Leasing – Management described the arrangement as transparent and longstanding, with no evidence of impropriety.
- Drainage Works – According to AHL, the works were handled in-house by the maintenance and finance teams as a cost-saving measure.
“Despite the false allegations of these so-called ‘concerned staff’, management has remained focused,” the statement said. “We are facilitating the completion of the Nunya Rooms Expansion Project, renovating the Organisation Conference Room, and upgrading the main washrooms. Plans are also underway to overhaul the hotel’s laundry facility.”
The management reiterated its dedication to preserving the AHL brand and maintaining its GTA rating, while also committing to fostering a better internal dialogue with staff.
“We remain fully committed to the long-term success of the hotel and continue to offer the best hospitality service for our clients. However, AHL maintains zero tolerance for smear campaigns and actions aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of Akosombo Hotels Limited,” the statement added.
Management also cautioned media outlets, especially classfmonline.com, to be more responsible in their reportage and avoid publishing what it described as ‘malicious false stories which seek to destroy indigenous Ghanaian business brands.’
Volta Hotel, nestled by the banks of the Volta River, remains a prominent destination for tourists and corporate clients seeking comfort, serenity, and a touch of nature.
