As the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) officially begins today, the Ministry of Education has issued a strong warning to all school personnel, cautioning that any teaching or non-teaching staff found engaging in or supporting exam malpractice will face serious consequences, including dismissal and possible prosecution.

Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, reminded stakeholders that the integrity of the examination process must remain intact and non-negotiable.

“The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, WAEC, and security agencies, will not tolerate any form of cheating, leakage, or compromise. Any staff member caught aiding or abetting malpractice will face severe disciplinary action. This could mean losing your job, and in some cases, facing jail time,” Dr. Apaak stated.

He emphasised that the Ministry has intensified surveillance and monitoring efforts across examination centres, and urged all school authorities, invigilators, and supervisors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and honesty.

“Schools must not become breeding grounds for dishonesty. You are employed to guide and nurture students, not to destroy their future. Those who engage in acts that compromise the credibility of our exams will be dealt with — swiftly, publicly, and without hesitation,” he said.

Dr. Apaak also encouraged school staff and the general public to report any suspicious activities related to the exams, saying the responsibility of protecting the fairness of the process lies with everyone.

Echoing the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu declared: “There must be zero tolerance for exam malpractice across the country. The young ones must grow in integrity, and let none of them be associated with exam fraud.”

To the thousands of WASSCE candidates across the country, the Ministry offered words of encouragement.

“You have been well prepared. Go into the examination room with confidence. Trust in your abilities, and know that your best effort is enough,” the Deputy Minister said.

This year’s WASSCE is being conducted under heightened scrutiny, as the Ministry works to safeguard the credibility of Ghana’s educational system.
