PRINPAG urges media to exercise sensitivity in coverage of chopper crash

The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has urged media establishments and journalists to approach their coverage of the recent helicopter crash with utmost sensitivity and professionalism.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two cabinet ministers. In a statement, PRINPAG extended its condolences to the bereaved families and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to ethical journalism and called on media practitioners to steer clear of speculation and sensationalism in their reportage.

The crash, which occurred near Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, resulted in the deaths of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and MP for Tamale Central; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC National Vice Chairman; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; as well as three military officers: Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah.

The statement said, “Behind every headline is a grieving family. This is a moment for reflection and respectful storytelling. We implore all journalists to report with compassion, integrity, and a sense of national duty.”

PRINPAG emphasised that responsible journalism plays a crucial role in maintaining national unity during such difficult times.

PRINPAG extended its condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and all grieving families and communities.

“We must stand together in this moment of immense sorrow. The pain is national, and so must be our respect, our mourning, and our resolve to uphold the dignity of the deceased,” the statement added.

As the state observes a three-day national mourning period, PRINPAG stands in solidarity and calls on the public to keep the bereaved in their thoughts and prayers.
