The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended an unreserved apology to President John Dramani Mahama, conveyed through the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership, after inflammatory threats by some NPP activists sparked public outrage.

In a conciliatory meeting between the top brass of both parties, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong condemned the remarks as unfortunate and unacceptable, stressing that such behaviour is wholly inconsistent with the party’s values.

“These were reckless comments from certain foot soldiers, but they do not represent the official position of the NPP. We distance ourselves from such rhetoric and want the President and the government to know we will never condone it,” Mr. Kodua said.

He warned that divisive statements, whether from the NDC or NPP, undermine Ghana’s democratic fabric.

“Death is not something you should wish on even your worst enemy,” he added, urging restraint from both sides.

The NPP delegation’s visit was aimed at calming tensions and reinforcing the commitment to peaceful political engagement ahead of the elections.

NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia echoed these concerns, pledging firm action against politically charged threats. “We as a party in government will ensure that we nip this in the bud,” he affirmed.
