Former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has slammed claims questioning the Ghanaian identity of his wife, Samira Bawumia, describing them as baseless and divisive propaganda.
Addressing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 33rd Anniversary celebration in New York on Sunday, August 24, Dr. Bawumia said the allegations, reportedly made by a senior party figure aligned with one of his internal rivals, were both unbelievable and dangerous.

He argued that Samira Bawumia’s active political role made such attacks particularly unjustified.
“When Samira was campaigning across the country for the party, nobody said she was not a true Ghanaian. So, what has changed now?” he asked.
Dr. Bawumia praised his wife’s efforts in mobilising support for the NPP both in opposition and in government, insisting that questioning her nationality undermines the party’s broader appeal.
“It shows how desperate some of our opponents have become. NPP is not a tribally or religiously bigoted party, so look for other issues to market yourselves,” he charged.
The former Vice President called on party members to reject divisive propaganda and uphold the NPP’s tradition of inclusivity.
“We are the party of unity and hope. Our strength comes from embracing Ghanaians of every background, and that is what will make us win in 2028,” he said.
